Goldfinch Funeral Home offers a variety of pre-payment options. Please let Don Odom, our Advanced Funeral Planning Director, explain the differences to you in person. What may seem complicated, at first, can be simple. Don will take care of the paperwork involved, whether you only wish to record your final wishes and have them on file at the funeral home, or whether you prefer to pre-pay for your funeral, as most people do.
INSURANCE FUNDING
Through Homesteaders Life Insurance Company, Goldfinch Funeral Home offers the convenience of insurance funding a pre-arranged funeral. The advantage to insurance funding can be - in many instances - that you're covered ("insured") from the time the policy is accepted by the company. Payment plans can be arranged for longer periods of time than the trust option, however the insurance company's premium will reflect an additional amount for this convenience.
Our Advanced Funeral Planning Director, Don Odom, is specifically trained to help you plan in advance, whether for yourself or for a family member. He is familiar with Social Security and Veteran's Benefits, Pre-funding Options, Funeral and Cremation Options and procedures. Let his expertise be your guide. Contact Don at donvodom@sc.rr.com, or by telephone at (843) 248-4211.
FUNERAL TRUST
Your funds are placed in a funeral trust account, in accordance with South Carolina laws governing pre-paid funeral plans. Because this is a trust specifically designed for funeral funds, you will receive no 1099 tax statements each year. Goldfinch Funeral Home arranges for any taxes to be paid automatically through the trust.
Because this trust is "revocable," you can cancel the trust at any time and receive the contract amount, less 20% administrative fee, in accordance with South Carolina law.
In some cases, an irrevocable (non-cancelable) prearrangement plan is necessary, for example when qualifying for Medicaid assistance. Our advance planning specialists will help you decide which trust is best for your situation.
Convenient monthly payment plans can be arranged for up to 60 months, with absolutely no interest.
