In most areas of the country or state, local law does not require that you buy a container to surround the casket in the grave. However, many cemeteries require that you have such a container so the grave will not sink. Either a grave liner or a burial vault will satisfy these requirements.
The Vault supports the 3,000 lbs. per square inch of earth pressure exerted around the casket, thereby preventing the grave from sinking and in later years not having to continually refill the grave. The vault also prevents heavy grave digging equipment from falling into the grave, preventing potential injury to cemetery workers and possible litigation.
