Conway--.Raymond "Ray" A. Anderson, age 61, died March 7, 2010 at his home in Conway, SC after a period of declining health.
Raymond was born March 18, 1948 in Spartanburg, SC, a son of the late Agnes Gossett and J.W. Anderson. He was educated in Spartanburg County Schools. Raymond loved the ocean and moved to Horry County in 1978. Raymond had a lifelong passion for golf that not only made him a great player, but also a willing teacher, coach, and enjoyable golf partner. He touched the lives of many people through his love and respect for the game. He was a former member of the Conway Country Club, and in 1998 he was the Senior Club Champion. He also had a voracious appetite for reading history and engaging in lively political discussions with his family. He loved the music of Elvis Presley, and later in life found affection for cats. Raymond spent his professional life involved in real estate. Early on he found huge success in the mobile home industry. He would later work in other housing and real estate-related endeavors but felt the most satisfaction developing affordable housing for senior citizens throughout the southeast. Raymond was sensitive to the needs of those who were disadvantaged and struggling, and found whatever means, however unconventional, he could to help.
He is survived by his wife Nancy Anderson; daughters, Wyndi Anderson of Washington, DC (Ian Campbell); Heidi Anderson of Spartanburg, SC (Marty Robuck) and his grandsons Hollis Robuck and Max Robuck; son, Christopher Anderson of College Station, TX (fiancé, Erica Socker); and brother, W. Sterling Anderson of Spartanburg, SC (Jane Anderson). He also leaves behind an extended family of beloved aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. His pets Riley and Booties are lost without him. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by two infant siblings. Raymond's family wishes to express grateful appreciation to Dr. Jon Dieter and his staff, and to the caregivers at Solaris Hospice.
